RV Washing

It isn't every day that one has a blog entry in a Car & Rv Wash.....but this one is different. It is brand new with doors for entry and exit. There is a wood fired boiler outside that heats the complete building including the floor! The attendant told us that without floor heating the doors would freeze to the floor. Dutchess was extremely dirty when she entered this wash and respectable when she left. 

Whitehorse Airport has the worlds largest windvane, a retired DC3 that has found a new job!  It is amazing to watch it rotate in the lightest breeze.

On to Whitehorse

We left Watson Lake at km 976 heading for Whitehorse on  16th June an somewhere between there and Teslin at km1244 we had our second  rock thrown at the windshield this time a huge dent that we will have to leave for repair until we get back to Vancouver.  The next morning after camping the night in a rest area we drove Granny back into Teslin to visit the Yukon Motel Gallery. They had some wonderful stuffed animals, moose, musk oxen, deer both Stone and Dall, wolves attacking a moose, caribou, beaver and many of the northern birds. Unfortunately, because the animals were behind glass the photos did not turn out well enough to put in the blog but these are just some of the local First Nations carvings in wood and on moose antlers

Washout

We had stayed a extra two days in Dawson Creek (Mile 0) due to the wash out west of Watson Lake km976.  There evidently was not a flat piece of ground that did not have a semi truck or an RV on it. Water had come down the mountain and taken away the culvert and the Highway's workers were replacing it with a Bailey bridge. It was one lane traffic with timed lights.

Windshield - oops!

As I just mentioned above this is our second rock, on a good piece of road no gravel, a pickup towing a trailer with an ATV in it coming towards us and WHACK!!!!!!  The round crack are about 6 inches across.  The first rock hit us just out of Dawson Creek and we had it repaired in Fort Nelson, it was in about the middle of the tree line.   Oh Well, a new glass when we get back to Vancouver.

These 4 Mazda MX5's arrived around dinner time and promptly set up their tents. We have to admire these 4 couples who have already traveled over 5000 kms from their home. Weather and road conditions have not been totally favourable for a sports car rally.
