On our way back to the marina and campground we continued down river to the huge hydro electric dam and the pleasure boat canal and lock system to allow transit around the dam.

Crossing into Quebec

Luck was with us as we arrived at the Carillon campsite, Tren and Lorraine had organized a really nice site, very close to where their trailer is set up. Ruth arrived at Dorval Airport from Pheonix on Thursday and the following days were a whirl of visits, get togethers and special meals.

Ottawa

With a campsite just East of Ottawa we were looking forward to 4 days of visits with family and friends as well having a chance to visit some of Ottawa’s many attractions. We had a great visit with Jean & John including a drive out to visit their new home, very nice and really spacious with room for their 5th wheel and lots of grass to cut.

National Art Gallery

Kathy was able to take photos of a couple of our favourite paintings before being reminded by the security staff that no pictures were allowed to be taken!

On to Ottawa

We had a chance to drop in for a very enjoyable visit with Tony and Ruth Ferrey on our way to Ottawa. They were our next door neighbours in Two Mountains where Tony started the first Air Scout Troop in Canada and was instrumental in teaching me the basics of auto mechanics.

Camped near Upper Canada Village we visited Chrysler Park Marina where John and Peggy kept their first boat 'Herleva' before moving to the West Coast.

Canada Day

On July 1st we ventured off the main highway and traveled the scenic route through the 1000 Islands on the St. Lawrence River. The small towns along this byway were dressed in flags and many had parades and fireworks to celebrate our countries birthday. We even got stuck in a traffic detour around a park in one small town, with a local OPP Officer helping Bill get ‘Dutchess’ with ‘Granny’ in tow around a very tight corner. The scenic route 33 has a free ferry as a part of the highway system.
