Yukon River, 5 Finger Rapids
This is the Five Fingers Rapids on the Yukon River that the gold miners had to pass through as they barged down river from Whitehorse to Dawson City. There were as many as twenty seven paddle wheelers working the river before the Klondike Hwy was constructed. On the return trip south - up river the paddle wheelers had to winch themselves up through the nearest shore and the first two rock islets. The trip down river took 36 hours from White horse to Dawson City the return trip up river took anything from six to eight days.
