Canada U.S. Border

In  the1890's there was no border here and four storage stone buildings were built on the point of the peninsular around to Hyder from Stewart.  The United States bought Alaska from the Russians in 1867. The border was surveyed in 1896 and two of the four buildings were in British Columbia, Canada. Today, there is only one stone building left right on the border, see border post above.
The corner stone of the oldest stone building in Alaska.
Looking down the main street of Hyder, Alaska. Today, there is a Canadian Border Check on the way out of Hyder but there is no American border check going into Hyder, Alaska.  A bit of a joke actually as the only road leads back up into the mountains to the Salmon Glacier in British Columbia with no way out except through Hyder/Stewart.
