We were so lucky the day we drove into Valdez as the sun was shining and we could see the tops of the mountains, not so as we left, but the waterfalls and rivers had lots of water in them.
The Glenn Hwy and the Tok Cut Off Hwy were some of the worst conditioned roads we had come across due the the perma frost and the roads heaving. The road ahead looked OK, BUT. Once or twice it was like being on a plane that hit an air pocket and our seats just dropped away from under us. We learnt to read the road with 'both of us driving' and our speed down to 50 kms. A couple of times we hit the bottom of Dutchess's air bags after going over an invisible bump.
