Steps

The automatic steps have been playing up on us since Arizona and finally decided to quite, in the out position while we were here. Bill and Brian decided to dismantle the works and found that the mechanics and motor were beyond repair. The steps were tied in the up position and will remain there until we get to the coast.

Fencing

A good part of the pastures at Herongate are fenced with post and rails. Like most fencing this needs constant repair and maintenance.

End of the 'chook' house

An old Chicken coop had to come down to allow the fencing to be completed for the horses to use the paddock. Bill and Brian spent several hours demolishing and taking the remains up to the burning pile in the back paddock.

Gardening

There is a very long driveway into Herongate lined with tall poplar trees.

One of several very old log buildings on the property.

Marilyn has had a very large vegetable garden but over the years the roots of the poplar trees have invaded, seeking the water from the irrigation . Marilyn wanted a raised garden built so one day Brian and Bill went off and bought some 1'' x 12"s and Marilyn's new veggie garden was created.

Compost was bought down from the top paddock and the irrigation was altered to fit the shape of the new garden boxes. We dug part of the old garden and squash, and zucchini were planted along with strawberries rescued from the old garden and the raspberries were weeded and sorted through.

Refrigeration Repair

One day in Florida back in December we found water running across the kitchen floor and discovered that the hose to the ice maker in the freezer had burst. Bill shut off the water and found that it had burst at the intake into the freezer so he cut off a section and reattached it but with in minutes it burst again, so we shut the ice maker off and bought some ice cube trays.

While at Herongate we booked Dutchess into the local RV dealer to have the hose replaced but Brian convinced Bill that the two of them could do the work themselves.

So one morning the fridge/freezer was slide out of it's cabinet onto two coolers and spun around so the back was exposed and they had the old hose off and measured. All four of us went into Vernon to one of the local hardware stores and $5.00 later we had 6' of 1/4" hose and a roll of aluminum sticky tape. The four of us went off for a very tasty chicken wings lunch and then it was back to Dutchess and the fridge.
Within no time at all they had the new hose and heated wire wrapped in the sticky aluminum tape and reinstalled, the fridge was slide back into the cabinet and by that evening we could hear the ice cubes dropping into the tray in the freezer.
