I had not been on a tram or street car since I was a kid in New Zealand and visited with my grandparents in Auckland. Bill, Yvonne and I took the street car to the end of the run, the 'City of the Dead' and back again. The city of New Orleans had just purchased new red street cars to help replace the 90 year old green ones when hurricane Katrina arrived. The old green street cars were housed in a yard on higher ground and the yard where the new red cars were stored was flooded. Now the city is having to pay the cost of one million dollars per car to get them working again.
