We crossed the Mississippi/Louisiana border and drove over the seven mile long bridge across Lake Pontchartrain into New Orleans. The bridge itself was quite scary as it had been very badly damaged during hurricane Katrina and huge sections of it had fallen into the lake. As you can see in the bridge picture, there is now a new bridge being constructed along side the old, but the old bridge has four or five very long sections of Bailey bridge inserts that you rattle across. The top picture was our first view of the derelict buildings before we turned off the Interstate Highway and down to the Pontchartrain Landing RV Park in New Orleans.
