Route 66

The repairs to Dutchess were finished by lunchtime so we decided that we would not continue back to the Hoover Dam due to the Easter crowds and left Dutchess at the Flying J Station in Kingman and would go exploring in Granny. Route 66, built in the 1930ies, was the first paved road between Los Angeles and Chicago and we had been seeing bits of it since we left Flagstaff and Williams. Route 66 has become an icon in U.S. motoring history. The road up to Sitgreaves Pass was very narrow and winding.

We passed the Ghost town of Goldroad even although there is still an active mine there, passed through Oatman and onto Golden Shores, then north to Fort Mohave and Bullhead City on the Colorado River then on through Golden Valley back to Kingman.
