We left at a reasonably early time, as we had decided to be in the Halifax area by evening. Our planned stop for morning tea/coffee at Rita McNeil's Tea House at Big Pond didn't work out to plan as we were almost an hour before opening time.
Our next rest stop was at the St. Peter's locks, where small vessels can enter or exit the Bras d'Or Lake. We were lucky to have a sail boat arrive at the locks on it's way south, just as we arrived, so were able to watch the road bridge open and close and the lock close behind it.
The only place that we are aware of where one can order a 'McLobster' is in the Maritimes, it was a little hard to convince John & Peggy to have lunch at the Antigonish McDonald's, but it is a 'once in a lifetime', meal!
We arrived at Hubbard's Beach Camp Ground, less than an hours drive south of Halifax. This would prove to be our 'home' for the next 5 days.
