Denali National Park

The drive south from Fairbanks on Hwy 3, The Park Hwy was a lovely sunny day but very windy and we had quite a few views of Mount McKinley on the way.  Mount McKinley is the highest mountain in North America at 22,230 feet. Unfortunately that was the last day we saw the top of the mountain as with the high winds the clouds moved in.  We could not get into the Riley Campground at the Park Road entrance so carried onto Denali Grizzly Bear RV Park and Cabins.  Then drove Granny back to explore. We stopped at the Visitors Centre which was very interesting but no where as good as the one in Fairbanks, the animals in this picture are plastic and larger than life. We drove the 14 miles up the Denali Park Road that private vehicles are allowed.  We were quite disappointed  with the presentation of Denali Park, we found the little village crude and far to commercial, and unless you were a hiker or tramper the only way into the park was on very expensive bus tours. After driving the Dempster Hwy from Dawson City in the Yukon to Inuvik in the North West Territories, crossing five very different mountain ranges, tundra, mountain plateaus and river delta we felt some what disappointed.
