We took a drive in Granny from Soldotna about twenty miles down river toward the Kenai River mouth. Above are small boats using 'dip' nets, we had seen these dip nets sticking out of the back of pick up trucks and strapped to trailers with ATV's and wondered how they were used. They are like a regular fishing net but about six feet across with a handle that must be about twelve feet long when connected. Here in Alaska they are allowed to 'dip' the nets off a boat and scoop the salmon up, we have never seen anything like it in Canada. Below looking down the river to the mouth, the tide has dropped about thirty five feet.
Down at the river mouth we looked down with binoculars and camera, hundreds of people fishing from both sides of the river mouth. Here the town charged $15.00 to walk onto the beach or to go fishing.
