The covered Hartland Bridge is the longest covered bridge in the world at 1239 feet long. We were not able to drive across it as repairs were being done to the deck and side and roof beams. They were not using asphalt but a new light weight epoxy resin with fine gravel. The beams were being reinforced with aluminum plates and bolts. You can see the concrete piers on the up river side shaped to deflect the ice in the spring.
