Ellis Island is another island very close to the Statue of Liberty in the Upper New York Bay. It is now Ellis Island National Monument and a museum to the millions of immigrants who have entered the United States over the last 150 years. Immigrants were kept on Ellis Island until they were processed, sometimes for just hours, but at times for days and weeks.
