At Union Station in Washington , DC we found shops selling Obama/Biden and McCain/Palin souvenirs, everything from buttons, sweatshirts, t-shirts, mugs, ties, and pens.
We sat up on election night as the polls shut across the county waiting as each county and state sent in their results.
It was around 11:30 pm when the numbers for the states and the senate really took shape for the Democrats to win. John McCain gave a very gracious speech from Arizona conceding to Barack Obama. It was the largest voter turn out the country has seen in about forty years, Barack Obama was able to motivate the young student and African/American voter that in the past never bothered to vote. His acceptance speech from Chicago was very emotional to hundreds of thousands who had turned out in the park to celebrate his win for the Presidency. He is sworn in and takes office on the 20th January, 2009.
