Driving south on Highway 17, as we entered Mt. Pleasant a northerly suburb of Charleston we kept seeing lots of these basket stalls along the highway. The Negro slaves bought the craft with them from Africa and over the last several hundred years they still make baskets from the local sweet grass and sell them. We found the prices very expensive and a small oval basket about 6 to 8 inches long was about $60.00 and the ones you can see in the front of the second photo were $350.00
