Shortly after crossing from North to South Carolina we were regularly seeing palm trees and the famous 'southern' moss in the live oak trees. Just south of the border the beach resort area of Myrtle Beach stretches 60 miles down the coast. Most of the area has been highly developed with high rise condos along the surf beach, very interesting large homes built on stilts, numerous shopping centers, every type of restaurant possible, huge, high bill boards and many amusement parks. We stayed in one of our first Resort Parks, a gated community with clubhouse, swimming pool, and docks backing onto the Intracoastal Waterway. Within a half hour drive of Myrtle Beach are 100 golf courses. But there was virtually no one there, lots of the huge hotels and apartment buildings only had about half a dozen cars parked at each of them. We are finding that people in general are not traveling this winter due to the fuel costs, although in the last month regular gasoline has dropped a dollar a gallon and yesterday found regular gas at $1.999.
For some time we have been concerned about a noise from the front of Granny and today was the day to check it out. After the mechanic from a recommended garage took it out for a test drive, he put it up on the hoist. The inside of the left front tire was worn and badly cupped. Time for a new tire which was easily organized. The problem appears to be solved.
