US Election day

Election day was rather dark and rainy in southern Virginia. We spent a good part of the day watching the election proceedings with the tension building as the polls closed one state after another. We are amazed that even on election day here in the States they allow election adds on the TV and radio. As the results become obvious, we are sure that the world sighes a collective sigh of relief that the whole world now has a better chance for peace and equality. John McCain gave a very gracious speech conceding to Barack Obama. But late in the evening when Barack Obama made his acceptance speech from a park in Chicago the emotion on peoples faces, black or white, was a wonder to be seen. Maybe Thomas Jefferson's belief in the right of man and a government derived from the people, in the freedom of religion and the seperation of church and state and in the education of all, will come to pass for human liberty in the United States, 200 years later.
