Daytona Beach has been known for years as a testing ground for high speed cars and motorcycles as well as many speed trials. Today we were limited to the posted speed of 10 mph, but it was still a thrill to be here as almost 70 years ago my Mum and Dad drove down this same beach on their holiday to Florida. I can remember hearing the stories of them driving down the beach with tow trucks behind the sand dunes waiting for the unsuspecting motorist to get caught with a rising tide! Today there are no 'sand dunes' just mile after mile of high rises, hotels and resorts along the high tide line. Only a very few people walking or driving the beach but we did see postcards of wall to wall bodies lining the beach which must be in the spring.
